The Salvadoran Colon (SVC) was the official currency of the Central American country of El Salvador from 1892 to 2001.
The colon is named after Christopher Columbus, known in Spanish as Cristóbal Colón.
The Banco Central de Reserva de El Salvador (Banco Central de Reserva de El Salvador) is responsible for issuing and managing the Salvadoran Colon.
Currency Exchange
In 2001, El Salvador adopted the United States dollar (USD) as its official currency, replacing the colon.
The main reasons for this change are to stabilize the economy, attract foreign investment, and reduce inflation.
The Colon is no longer in circulation and all financial transactions are now conducted in US dollars.
