Janet Yellen is an American economist who has held many important positions in the fields of economics and monetary policy.

Born in 1946, Yellen is best known for her role as chair of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors from 2014 to 2018.

She is the first woman to hold this position, appointed by President Barack Obama.

Prior to this, Yellen served as Vice Chairman of the Federal Reserve from 2010 to 2014.

Yellen received her Ph.D. in economics from Yale University in 1971. She has had an extensive career in academia, teaching at Harvard University, the London School of Economics, and the University of California, Berkeley.

Yellen has also conducted influential research in the areas of macroeconomics, labor markets, and monetary policy.

In addition to her role at the Federal Reserve, Yellen served as a member of the Council of Economic Advisers under President Bill Clinton and as president and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco.

After serving as chair of the Federal Reserve, Yellen was appointed U.S. Treasury Secretary by President Joe in January 2021.

She was the first woman to hold this position, making her a trailblazer for the Federal Reserve System and the U.S. Treasury Department.

As Treasury Secretary, Yellen is responsible for overseeing U.S. fiscal policy, financial regulation and economic diplomacy.
